The event will take place at 2 p.m. on the plaza of Robert Lee Moore Hall (RLM), where attendees may take part in a human orrery, or solar system model that demonstrates the planets’ motion around the sun.

The formation of the orrery will be followed with a talk by Dr. Craig Wheeler – Samuel T. and Fern Yanagisawa Regents Professor in Astronomy at the University of Texas. Wheeler’s talk, “A Brief Time for History: 400 Years of Astronomy” will take place at 3 p.m. in the PMA Library (RLM 4.200), and will be followed by a reception.

The PMA event is in recognition of the International Year of Astronomy, which is described by the hosting organizations’ website as “a global effort initiated by the International Astronomical Union (IAU) and UNESCO to help the citizens of the world rediscover their place in the Universe through the day- and night-time sky.”
